How to review an AI-retouched jewelry image
Compare the result with the source and the actual piece before approving it. Check product identity first, then presentation.
Review checklist · Version 1.0 · 21 October 2026
This is a manual inspection method you can use on a preview. It is not a published performance study, a certification, or a promise that every output passes. Ordinary self-service results do not include an external expert review.
Check the piece before the polish
Stones and settings
Compare the visible stone count, arrangement, shapes, prongs, bezels and supporting structure. An attractive replacement stone or invented prong is a reason to reject the result.
Construction and connections
Inspect the shank profile, bail, chain-link pattern, jump rings, clasps and earring closure. Check that openings remain open and connected parts still connect.
Material appearance
Compare the metal tone, two-tone boundaries, intentional finish, stone color, natural inclusions and pearl surface with a reliable source. Do not turn satin into mirror polish or remove an actual material characteristic.
Proportions and marks
Check the visible proportions, engraving and readable marks. A plausible-looking scale or a reconstructed hallmark does not verify dimensions, fineness, origin or grade.
Presentation
After identity passes, inspect background, edge transitions, reflections, shadows, crop and consistency with the approved collection reference. Review the actual exported file against your destination requirements.
Pass, reject, or ask for a better source
Pass
The visible product details match the available evidence, and the presentation suits the intended use. This decision applies to this image and this task.
Reject
A material detail changed, even if the image looks more polished. Keep the rejected output and record the reason before requesting another version or using manual finishing.
Unassessable
A hidden clasp, blur, clipped edge, blown highlight or unreadable mark prevents a reliable comparison. Request a sharper source or another angle for human review. Uncertainty is not a pass.
Keep a collection traceable
Keep each original and result linked to its SKU or model code. Record the requested changes, reference, all attempts, errors, additional charges and manual corrections. Compare new pieces with the approved reference, then inspect each piece separately. Repeated photos of one piece do not become additional independent products.
A photograph has limits
The source photograph can itself have a color cast or perspective distortion. Compare with the physical item or a controlled reference when the fact matters. Image editing cannot establish gemstone identity, treatment, origin, grade, metal fineness or hidden construction. A creative variation should be identified as a variation and supported by factual product photographs.
Technical references
GIA explains why gemstone color and inclusions matter and how laboratory analysis differs from looking at a photograph. These educational references do not certify Jewels Retouch or this checklist.
